Memorandum with reference to Peking despatch to Foreign Office No. 1168 (25/81A/1937) of the 21st December, 1937, circulated in circular to consuls

No.90.

Exemption from Import Duty of Medical Supplied intended for Purposes of

Medical Relief.

The following further particulars have been obtained in response to Peking Circular to Consuls No.90 of 21st December, 1937:-

TIENTSIN: The Commissioner of Customs stated in early January that to the best of his knowledge the local Quarantine officer had received no instructions from the National Health Administration. He understood, however, that under the proposed new Import Tariff for North China

medicines, serum, and certain medical preparations would probably be allowed duty free importation. According to

the list of the new tariff rates issued by the Provisional Government for North China and enclosed in Peking despatch to Foreign Office No.42 E of 28th January, 1938, the duty has been duly removed in respect of Serums and Vaccines

(Item No.464).
